Supply houses will not deliver or ship these panels and they offer no guarantee or exchanges after you order them because they are so easy to damage and hard to handle. What is the best way to decorate an old mobile home?
Lightweight drywall is also a little stronger, which means less damage to the edges when handling and more resistance to sagging. Lightweight panels meet all International Building Code, International Residential Code and ASTM C1396 Specification for Gypsum Board, for both 1/2-in. Many mobile homes have wall material that is 1/4″ to 3/8″ thick. There generally is not enough strength in this material to support the weight with drywall anchors alone. Most interior walls are made of drywall approximately ½ inch thick.
It’s affordable, lightweight, and doesn’t require finishing which makes it a perfect material for ceilings. Manufactured home builders use gypsum wall panels and ceiling panels. Paper On Gypsum wallboards used to have a 5/16” thickness, but the majority of new Clayton homes now have 3/8” thickness. Instead of using standard drywall, manufactured homes usually use vinyl-on-gypsum wall panels. The thickness of manufactured home wallboards ranges from 5/16” to 12” and is available in a variety of thicknesses. Most people probably picture the standard 4×8 panel when they think of drywall, even though it’s by no means the only size or type of drywall available today.

Hanging drywall is fairly cut and dry (it’s the taping and mudding that can get make you or break you). Once you have the trim, battens, and false beams removed you’ll want to start taking the rosettes out of the panels as you go from one panel to the next. Drywall has many different names that you might recognize, including sheetrock, gypsum board, plasterboard, and wallboard. An existing textured ceiling, for example, can be covered over with 1/4-inch sheets rather than going through the mess and work of removing a texture. Using a hammer and pry bar, pry off the old wall panels, starting at a corner or seam that is loose enough to get the pry bar behind it. Continue around the room until all the panels are removed.
This size is also commonly used for ceilings as they are durable, long-lasting, and won’t sag over time. Soundproof drywall contains more layers than normal drywall, including wood fibers, polymers, and gypsum. As the name suggests, this type of drywall is used to further isolate noise within a space. Moisture-resistant drywall comes with a special coating that gives it a green shade.

As you would expect, the features don’t come for free, and it is a bit more expensive than regular drywall. It is also the most economical out of all the different types of drywall available in the market. There is a difference in the formula used to produce different types of drywall. Typical drywall, for instance, might have sulfur, whereas Sheetrock™ will not.
